House of Victory Student-Athletes Help Fire Relief Efforts at DTLA Shelter
As the fallout from the ongoing wildfires across Los Angeles continues and the recovery process is just beginning for so many, football and women’s basketball student-athletes stepped up to help out the community through recent NIL engagements with House of Victory. In conjunction with several local nonprofit organizations, including Impact LA, ANE Foundation, AFTP Foundation and LoveChild Hospitality, a 24 hour emergency evacuation shelter is open at 9thirtyLA in the Arts District to provide support for fire evacuees and first responders.
House of Victory, the Official NIL Collective of USC Athletics, arranged the opportunity for women’s basketball and football to support these local efforts in a variety of ways including managing, sorting and organizing incoming donations and continued upkeep and organization for the distribution center over several different days and volunteer shifts.
“We’re out here unloading boxes and sorting donation to help those affected by the fires, and we’re just thankful to be here and to be able to help,” said transfer defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett.
The shelter is providing essential items, food and temporary shelter as well as serving as a distribution hub for essential items with volunteer drivers packing and taking donations to other shelters across LA that are in closer proximity to the affected areas.
Throughout their time at the shelter, House of Victory athletes unpacked, organized and loaded several hundred boxes of supplies.
“I’m overwhelmed with joy at the amount of help and support that we’ve received from all the volunteers, and all the organizations and all the individuals who are donating to us every single day,” said ImpactLA Executive Director Courtney Lockridge. “We just want to be here for LA, and just what our name says, we want to impact LA. That’s what we’re here to do.”
During this unprecedented time of disaster affecting so many across Los Angeles, House of Victory will continue to support fire relief efforts as it is able to and continue efforts to connect student-athletes with opportunities to help their local community.
